I’ve said before that I could quite happily survive on a strict wardrobe diet made up entirely of Tibi. The brand’s spring summer 16 collection was a beautifully laid back procession of long and loosely structured designs – nothing that would entirely take your breath away but everything that you would most certainly desire as a solid wardrobe piece.

Even someone as pale as myself, usually washed out by oh-so-basic-beige against my skin, was bowled over by a beautifully muted colour palette of nudes and whites, with an injection of red wine and splashes of coral shades here and there that seemed to energise an otherwise laid back offering. The only thing I took issue with was the sequins. Surely our summers don’t need an injection of sparkle a la Christmas baubles?  An elevation of normcore it was, but I so wished Tibi had stuck to their comfort zone of minimalism.

Another focus on flowing lengths could be found at Derek Lam.  Inspired by Nina Simone, femininity and independence was a key theme, depicted in designs created for strong women not afraid to show their ‘girly’ side: think pantsuits, buttoned up collars and the occasional loud print (Simone would have been proud!). My favourite looks: the halter neck, off the shoulder gowns with elongated sleeves; the breezy cotton denim. Like Simone, this was a collection for the women who likes the celebrate herself.
